Portions

I have a problem with gluttony. I like food. A lot. There are very few types of food I’ve ever eaten that I said to myself, “Self, don’t ever eat this again!”  I like food. A lot. And a lot of it. This is my other problem. When I taste food that I like, I like to eat it a lot, and a lot of it. Some call this the “see food diet.” We see food, then we eat it. Summer is upon us here in Tucson. We’ve pushed beyond the 100 degree threshold for the foreseeable future. And my […]

Where’s home?

Posted on

My family and I belong to a somewhat weird “tribe.” There are many others of us out there. Some served in the military or grew up as military kids. Others grew up as pastor’s kids or missionary kids. Others just had to move around a lot growing up or throughout their life.  And the number one question that everyone in this tribe often fears the most is: “Where’s home?” It can be an impossible question to answer!  Two years ago this week we bought our home here in Tucson. Many of y’all were there to help clean, paint and move […]

Update from the church council

If you do choose to join us in person, we believe that it […]

“Stupid is as stupid does,” and coronavirus reopening update

We’re continuing our Forrest Gump blog theme for another week. And this quote is one of my favorites: “mamma always said, stupid is as stupid does!”  Using this definition, I can be pretty stupid. I do all kinds of stupid things. Hopefully less now that I’m older. But still…I have more than enough “stupid” left in me! How about you? Well, I have good news for all of us. We don’t have to live “stupid.” We can learn to leave behind many of these stupid, foolish, behaviors and grow up to look more like Jesus! This week we’re going to […]

“Mama always said…”

Many of y’all know that I really like to movie “Forrest Gump.” Some of y’all still think I AM Forrest Gump. It’s hard to believe the movie came out 26 years ago. So much has happened since then that it might be tempting to think that it has all been an accident or a product of chance. But as Forrest’s mama always said, “God is mysterious.”  Mother’s Day is this coming Sunday. I know we were all looking forward to having Mother’s Day lunch together. But like so much of the rest of this year, our plans can’t keep up […]
