A house divided

It is reported that when Abraham Lincoln was running for Senate in 1858, he recognized the huge division facing the young United States. In a speech accepting his party’s nomination he referenced the passage we’ll be studying this coming Sunday. In that speech he said:

“A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.”

Most people have heard the phrase “a house divided cannot stand.” Over 160 years later it still seems like our nation hasn’t learned to apply this truth from God’s word. In our nation and around our world we see divisions in almost every aspect of society.

One of Satan’s most common strategies is to create this kind of division, because we are weaker when we’re not committed to loving and serving one another and serving the world around us together with a unified vision. It sure seems like Satan’s strategy is working here in the US right now!

Thankfully, as we continue studying Luke 11 this Sunday, we’ll see Jesus’ solution to division on both human and spiritual warfare levels. This solution is logical and consistent, and most of all it glorifies Jesus!

Are you ready to be part of Jesus’ solution?

See you Sunday!
