Jerusalem, Samaria, and the ends of the earth

Posted on

Jesus left us very clear instructions on how to live out our lives as His followers. He told us to help everyone we meet know and follow Him too. I appreciate that reminder from Pastor Abraham last week. He reminded us to “take as many people with you to Heaven as you can!” The work in India Pastor Abraham talked about last Sunday represents “the ends of the earth” to us. But what about closer to home? What about our “Jerusalem,” and our “Samaria?” Over the next two Sundays we’ll be talking more about those mission fields. This coming Sunday, Pastor Juan from Gospel Rescue Mission will be […]

Blessed to be a blessing!

Posted on

Blessed to be a blessing! You’ve probably heard that phrase before. Maybe you’re already tired of hearing it! But the reality is, for those of us who belong to Jesus, His love was never designed to stop with our salvation. As we’ve mentioned before, everyone that belongs to Jesus is called to help others know and follow Him too! Everyone! Not just the “Super-missionaries!” We’ll be hearing more about these responsibilities and opportunities through guest speakers over the next two weeks.  I’m excited about our guest speaker for Sunday. Pastor Abraham is a good friend of Bob and Olivia’s, and someone they’ve supported […]

How we grow

Posted on

We’ve been talking a lot recently about “strength in numbers.” Living in community with others provides security and fellowship. It also provides purpose! When we live in community, God uses our community to add to our community as we share good news with those around us! Connecting with others as smaller groups of believers is how we grow as individuals and as a church.  This Sunday we’ll finish our series on “Biblical Community 101” by looking at fifth of five critical components for true biblical community: Witnessing. We’ll see how God’s people can effectively work together to share the Lord Jesus with the […]

Evidence that demands a decision

Posted on

Holy Week is upon us once again. The week that we focus even more on the Lord Jesus’ death for our sins and resurrection on Easter morning.  But what evidence do we have for this celebration? On Sunday we’ll look at 1 Corinthians 15:1-8, and we’ll examine clear evidence that demands a decision.  Please join us in person on Sunday at 7:00AM for our combined English and Chinese Sunrise Service with communion! If you can’t make it in person, you can still join us online by going through our website: www.tcbcf.org then hit “watch livestream.”  We’ll follow our sunrise service time with a special combined […]

What if this pandemic is a precursor to revival?

Posted on

Good morning church family! I wanted to write a message to update y’all after yesterday’s “weirdness” and offer another perspective on what is happening with churches around the country. Yesterday thousands of churches around the country broadcast or live streamed their services. The feedback I’ve received from other pastors around the country so far show a much broader audience than most thought possible.  For example, as of this writing around 9 Monday morning, TCBC had 358 online “views” of our English service and 84 online “views” of our Chinese service. While I realize that Facebook counts a “view” as anything […]

Agreeing with Nietzsche

Posted on

Would it trouble you to know that your pastor agrees with Nietzsche? It probably should. But it’s not what you think! Nietzsche famously said: “God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murders of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us?” I agree with SOME of what Nietzsche said, but not all of it! How about you? This Sunday we’re going to look at Luke’s account of the crucifixion from Chapter […]

“You had one job”

Posted on

If you have a few moments today, AFTER you finish reading this, do yourself a favor and Google “you had one job” memes. I think you will enjoy it. You’ll find road signs and stripes painted with the wrong directions. Typos that went to print. People that didn’t follow the instructions. Labels in the wrong places. Even a fortune on the outside of a fortune cookie for everyone to read. Before you go, let me tell you why I’m encouraging you to laugh at some of these mistakes. It is easy to lose focus. It doesn’t take much to forget […]

So, we’re moving

Posted on

So, we’re moving. You might have heard. Most of y’all are familiar with our real estate challenges this spring since coming to Tucson. At one point I think we looked at everything online in our price range at least twice. We probably looked at more than 60 houses in person. We had multiple contracts fall through. We had agents mislead and betray our agent. We had deals “too good to be true” actually turn out to be so. And then, at just the right time, we found one that we’re looking forward to living in. And we went through the […]

One big happy family?

Posted on

Greetings y’all! Families are important. Most cultures around the world place a high value on families and family members. Even our movies and TV shows tap into this idea of family. Down through the years we’ve had shows like “Father knows best,” “Leave it to Beaver,” “The Brady Bunch,” “The Partridge Family,” “All in the Family,” “The Cosby Show,” “Family Ties,” and “Everybody loves Raymond.” This family show theme continues on through today with shows like “Modern Family,” “Rosanne,” and “This is us (bring the tissues).” Shows about other people’s families make us laugh and cry and think about our […]

The Crossroads

Posted on

Greetings y’all! A famous rabbit once said, “I knew I should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque!” Sometimes when we’ve taken the wrong turn, it becomes obvious after the fact. Sometimes it’s hard to know whether to go “right” or “left.” Sometimes we make choices to go one way even though we know the other path is better. Last week we saw that the gospel comes to us through a personal revelation and calling from Jesus Christ, and this calling leads us into service as part of Christ’s church. Part of loving Jesus and His gospel is confronting those […]
